John Henry Graham Cutts 18841956 was a writer director and producer who worked in fledgling British film industry initially for GrahamWilcox Productions then for Balcon Freedman Saville 1923 and Gainsborough 192429 before directing less frequently for various British film companies during the 1930s During the midtolate 1920s he was regularly referred to as Englands greatest director by the British press His daughter was actress Patricia Cutts 19261974 Cutts worked with many leading figures in the UK film and stage world including Basil Dean Alfred Hitchcock Gracie Fields Ivor Novello and Noël Coward
